Mixed Meter: The movement opens in an unbalanced 9/8 meter, 3/4+3/8, and changes time signatures frequently from there. Hold on to your hats!

Rhythmic Pattern: Notated here. This pattern sure is tricky! Let's make it easier:

• Decode the rhythmic pattern with syllables you use in class
• For fun, turn the last eighth rest of each measure into an eighth note. Speak and play the pattern this way!
• Now take that extra eighth note back out, and perform the pattern as written
