Suite Andalucía: IV. Gitanerías

Ernesto Lecuona
Piece Duration: 1:45

About this Piece

(Movement IV. is 10:10-11:53)

Program Note: "Suite Andalucía is Ernesto Lecuona's masterpiece for piano, reproduced worldwide and transcribed numerous times for other instruments, even for orchestra by the composer himself. It was composed in 1933, after Lecuona's trips to Spain.

The six works refer to Andalusian landscapes, such as Malagueña (Málaga), the Guadalquivir River, the province of Córdoba... The rhythmic style of Andalusia dominates in this composition."

Presto: This movement barrels forward from beginning to end! Instead of conducting in a 3-beat pattern, would it be easier to conduct it in a large 1-beat pattern?

Triplet: At the start of Movement IV, and again at 11:15, the melody features a triplet figure!
