Rocketship!

Intro: Steady quarter notes are played by the percussion, with eighth notes in the woodwinds. The ensemble enters bit by bit, crescendoing to the first A Section!

A Section: The french horns play an energetic melody, soon joined by the trumpets! Then, the woodwinds answer with a contrasting legato passage, interrupted by a fiery trumpet fanfare!

B Section: The trombones and euphonium take the main melody, as the rest of the ensemble gradually enters and builds towards the next section.

C Section: The snare drum takes a stunning solo, over the rest of the ensemble's shorter entrances. Soon, the trumpets play short and accented quarter notes as the woodwinds play high jumping repeated patterns!

D Section: The flutes and clarinets play back and forth in imitation, while the Euphoniums play a melody below!

D Section continued: Listen to that gorgeous rising chorale passage, in the low brass section! The rest of the ensemble slowly joins above the low brass, crescendoing to the next section of the piece.

Range: Use the sheet music, pgs. 9-10 to look at how the composer has used range throughout the ensemble. Every musical element has a specified range!
