About this Piece
Program Note: Michael-Thomas Foumai composed this fanfare utilizing the same orchestration in Aaron Copland's "Fanfare for the Common Man," and Joan Tower's "Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman." The fanfare is composed in three sections. The first section pays tribute to the past as the composer describes, "opening with a stark ancient-like chant with percussive thunderings and ancestral reverberations."
The middle section utilizes a motif from his symphony, and aims to reflect the young people of today. In the final section, the composer combines the ancient and the present as a "testament for the possibility of overcoming, when the convergence of the three timelines coexists in tandem."
