Dusty Grooves

Program Note: "'DUSTY GROOVES' is a collection of riffs, phrases, grooves, and moods found in blues and rock n’ roll.  From simple and purest forms, the music gradually evolves to progressive rock’s more complex sounding universe.  It is scored for four different parts, with an extra added electric bass part." - Clarice Assad

Suggested Activity: With the visual combination of many musicians on screen students may assume that all are playing different musical parts. However, by listening closely to the musical texture, many musicians may all be playing the same melodic line. Ask the students to consider the number of different musical parts playing at one time when large groups of musicians are shown on screen. Can they identify  moments when they are playing multiple musical parts or moments when all share the same musical part.
