Duo / Duet: This piece is written for Alto Flute and Cello

Dynamics / Phrase: The piece consists entirely of messa di voce phrases that crest at different times between the two instruments

Non-Metric: The sheet music provides a time signature, which helps the players to coordinate their individual parts. Though in the end, the music is not meant to have a strong sense of meter.

Trill: The alto flute trills between different notes throughout the piece! Sometimes it plays the same pitch with two different fingerings (this is called a timbral trill).

Tremolo: The cello is most often playing tremolos throughout this piece. Listen for the differences between the flute's trills, and the cello's tremolos!
